Igshaan Adams: Weerhoud at The Hepworth Wakefield
‘For this show, what I’ve decided to do is to look at earlier works… recognising that over time I have deliberately gone through this process of refinement.’ Igshaan Adams
This June, The Hepworth Wakefield will open a solo exhibition by South African artist Igshaan Adams. Entitled Weerhoud, meaning ‘Withheld’ in Afrikaans, the exhibition examines the impact of lived experiences and traumas on the human psyche, with a particular emphasis on the healing potential of movement.
Earlier this year, exhibition curator Marie-Charlotte Carrier visited Adams in his Cape Town-based studio as he prepared for the exhibition. In this short film, Adams talks about his collaboration with the Garage Dance Ensemble, a dance group based in O’okiep within South Africa’s Northern Cape Province. As part of a series of workshops, the dancers are encouraged to intuitively interact with a large canvas covered in wet paint, leaving behind traces, and creating abstract paint marks with their bodies. The resulting ‘paintings’ serve as inspiration for the tapestries Adams creates in his studio.

Hepworth's Progeny. In Conversation: Griselda Pollock and Lorna Green
I was watching this doc with great interest until Hitler was compared to Donald Trump. That was crude propaganda and I may not continue to watch. I vote independent, but still what an immature, self defeating comment.
I love Lee Miller !
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, narated beautifully.....wish I had had such an interesting mother, thank you for posting this fascinating story of a remarkable woman.
Wow years later and I wish I was sick on this day 😂
Queen of painting Christina. ❤️🤘
Last year, I visited the Lee Miller exhibition in Monschau, Germany. It was wonderful !
3:08 she says works with teachers but not REAL professionals. Speaks volumes.
Very interesting this art
Very interesting
Wish I had seen this exhibition . Im just reading his postumously published memoir "A Stinging Delight " which I highly recommend , an amazing life and memoir.
Excellent. Thank you for this.
WOW I would not have thought England would understand- but The Hepworth Wakefield woow well done.
She could have responded to the respect offered a little better I think. Pollock is so prepared, so thoughtful, trying so hard, taking it so seriously. Lynda is very slippery.
Great artist ! We hope you will like too our first surrealist short silent movie "THE IMPASSE" : ua-cam.com/video/DtNr_hbP4Cw/v-deo.html
I wish Peter Davies would make more films on at Ives , or anywhere , art. Enjoyed all his films and books greatly. !!! Thanks warren
nice poem!
Same nicole eisenman
Conceptual art has never appealed to me. I usually breeze through those parts of any gallery. But I am nonetheless glad it is being produced.
Very interesting :)
Well, I made a sculptural relief, kind of lumpish and garish; out of thick paper and papier-mache. I kept changing the shape and colour and it still looked kind of non-descript, but the dialogue was good. (reconfiguring and adapting)So a few days in I stumbled into the art world of Franz West and to here. So after a few hours of checking out Franz's sculpture etc, I came across his lumpy sculptures, and mine looked very similar! This video is great. My understanding of sculpture has improved enormously because of it. I didn't get to see the show, unfortunately. Maybe the Hepworth could invest in the Metaverse, although not a tactile experience, being able to weave around the works of art with a Hepworth dialogue would be brilliant and something I would subscribe to with no hesitation.
I could not hear a word the presenter said
My teacher is name Hepworth :)
Beautiful this was an amazing exhibition thankyou
Lovely so must visit soon👍
Lovely work !
May I suggest you to speak with a less raspy/hoarse/indie girl type of voice next time. Rather annoying and tiring.
he deserved this
Very nice!
great ,thanks
Amazing exhibition and concept. I would love for my Fondazione Mudima in Milan

Boring
I enjoyed this snapshot into a very lovely and diverse collection of 'voluptuous objects', Thank you.
That's a good viedeo
You have always been an inspiration to me in my work, thank you!

Very good.
THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR RESEARCH
Loved this video
It was her inner id crying out it is too late.
She was a fantastic woman with the heart and mind dedicated to the art but also to her own life and family. It's something to admire from a woman born at that time !
So pleased i got to see this exhibition today as i missed out on my intended trip in 2019
Well done Dana👏 Some like your Works some Do Not. i´d say, each gruppe equally has chance to make a decision. I´m with you Dana, for discovery of many interesting Worlds🍻
With the exception of the interior sets, my first impression was of street photography. As a street photgrapher, myself, I was impressed by diCorcia's ability to make these scenes seem more or less candid, until I realized they were staged.
I like the way he staged the shots. I thought that was the purpose of this art form. PL carried it out superbly.
I think a lot of his street photos are not staged actually! At least in one of the projects he set up a hidden strobe by a crosswalk and shot with a telephoto lens
such a joy to watch and so much to think thru!!
Cool 😎
Sad so many will miss this...
"Investment should never come into it" .... says it all
Here's a video refarding mathmatical rules of beauty in general such as music, paint, and even human appearance. I recommend the video for you to watch if it sounds intriguing. ua-cam.com/video/GWQWvh8_ZP8/v-deo.html
If someone knows the music...I take it ! Thank you.
